Première partie
Dès la première partie, le parterre du MTelus était bondé et il était difficile de s’y déplacer. Ayant reçu la mention de photographier à partir de la console de son, je me suis donc trouvé un petit coin surélevé, mais malheureusement, je n’ai pas été en mesure de pouvoir photographier adéquatement. Je n’ai pas manqué de remarquer qu’il y avait des photographes devant, alors, pour Kaleo, je me suis rendu devant avec l’approbation de la sécurité.
Dès que Chance Pena et ses musiciens ce sont présentés sur scène, la foule s’écria. Les gens était impatients d’entendre sa musique. Ce choix de première partie était parfait pour la soirée. Je ne connaissais pas cet artiste, mais ce fut une excellente découverte pour moi et toute sa discographie est maintenant ajoutée à mes playlists. Les couples devant moi étaient très heureux, les calins et les preuves d’affection ne manquaient pas dans cette foule bien compacte. Ce fût une prestation très courte, seulement 30 minutes, et je crois que les gens auraient bien aimé en entendre davantage.

En communion avec son public
Ce sont cinq musiciens bourrés de talent qui prennent place sur scène. La foule était prête. Ce soir, sans contredit, le blues/folk/rock était à l’honneur. La voix de Jökull Júlíusson, est un incontournable de ce style. Ce qui est d’autant plus impressionnant, c’est que la formation est la même depuis 2012, un seul membre s’est greffé depuis en 2018 et il s’agit du multi-instrumentistes Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson. Ce dernier aura conquis le coeur des fans de Montréal à chaque fois qu’il fera ses solos d’harmonica.
Dès les premières pièces nous avons droit aux succès tel que Broken Bones et I Can’t Go On Without You, sans oublier All The Pretty Girls. Durant cette dernière, impossible de ne pas avoir de frissons, Jökull nous étale tout son talent et toutes les possibilités de sa voix, de plus tous les gens présents sur place chantaient à l’unisson. La communion avec la formation était incroyable. C’est pour des moments comme ceux-là que la musique prends tout son sens pour moi.
Par la suite, ils ont enchaînés avec Lonely Cowboy, Automobile, Hey Gringo et Hot Blood. Hot Blood s’est terminé avec la sortie de scène de Jökull pour enchaìné avec un excellent interlude musical qui fera éloge aux talents de Davíð Antonsson (Drum), Daníel Ægir Kristjánsson (Basse), Rubin Pollock (Guitariste) et Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson (Harmonica, clavier, guitare). Impossible de ne pas danser ou sourire en voyant le plaisirs que les gars ont sur scène à ce moment.
À son retour sur scène, le chanteur entamera ce qui sera mon moment fort de la soirée. Le groupe nous a offert leur excellente reprise de la pièce Vor í Vaglaskógi. Encore une fois, la voix riche et sincère de Jökull aura su m’atteindre. Le groupe a poursuivi avec la pièce Skinny et bien entendu les deux grands succès que son Way Down We Go et No Good. Entendre la pièce iconique, Way Down We Go, être chanter à l’unission par un MTelus complet, c’était au-delà de mes attentes. Pour terminer leur spectacle, nous avons eu droit à une pièce en rappel et toute la foule s’est mise à vibrer avec Rock N Roller.
Pour tous les fans de Kaleo, si vous doutiez encore du niveau de performance que pouvait offrir le groupe, alors n’hésitez plus. Ce que vous entendez sur les albums, c’est exactement ce que vous entendrez sur scène!

Opening act
From the opening act, the MTelus floor was packed and it was difficult to move around. Having been given the mention to photograph from the sound console, I found myself a small raised corner, but unfortunately, I was not able to photograph adequately. I did not fail to notice that there were photographers in front, so, for Kaleo, I went to the front with the approval of security.
As soon as Chance Pena and his musicians appeared on stage, the crowd screamed. People were impatient to hear his music. This choice of opening act was perfect for the evening. I did not know this artist, but it was an excellent discovery for me and his entire discography is now added to my playlists. The couples in front of me were very happy, hugs and displays of affection were not lacking in this very compact crowd. It was a very short performance, only 30 minutes, and I think people would have liked to hear more.

These are five musicians full of talent who take their place on stage. The crowd was ready. Tonight, without a doubt, blues/folk/rock was in the spotlight. The voice of Jökull Júlíusson is a must in this style. What is even more impressive is that the formation has been the same since 2012, only one member has joined since 2018 and it is the multi-instrumentalist Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson and he conquered the hearts of Montreal fans each time he does his harmonica solos.
From the first songs we are treated to hits such as Broken Bones and I Can’t Go On Without You, without forgetting All The Pretty Girls. During this last one, it was impossible not to get chills, Jökull showed us all his talent and all the possibilities of his voice, moreover all the people present on site sang in unison. The communion with the band was incredible. It is for moments like these that music takes on its full meaning for me.
Afterwards, they continued with Lonely Cowboy, Automobile, Hey Gringo and Hot Blood. Hot Blood ended with Jökull leaving the stage to continue with an excellent musical interlude that will praise the talents of Davíð Antonsson (Drum), Daníel Ægir Kristjánsson (Bass), Rubin Pollock (Guitarist) and Þorleifur Gaukur Davíðsson (Harmonica, keyboard, guitar). It was impossible not to dance or smile seeing the pleasure the guys had on stage at this moment.
Upon his return to the stage, the singer would begin what would be my highlight of the evening. The band offered us their excellent cover of the song Vor í Vaglaskógi. Once again, Jökull’s rich and sincere voice would have reached me. The band continued with the song Skinny and of course the two big hits Way Down We Go and No Good. Hearing the iconic song, Way Down We Go, sung in unison by a full MTelus was beyond my expectations. To end their show, we were treated to an encore and the whole crowd started to vibrate with Rock N Roller.
For all the Kaleo fans, if you still doubted the level of performance that the band could offer, then do not hesitate any longer. What you hear on the albums is exactly what you will hear on stage!
